SIA students volunteer to commemorate MLK Day

Six Penn State School of International Affairs students volunteered their time and cleaning skills at Schlow Centre Region Library in State College as part of the Penn State MLK Day of Service. Amani Alkhiami, Karen Coker, Xinyan Diao, Jennifer Gibbs, Biyun Song, Shenshuer Zhang, and SIA academic adviser Claudia Prieto spent four hours completing a variety of cleaning tasks, including washing and wiping down library bookcases, shelves, and other furniture.

Students, faculty, and staff were invited to serve the community as part of Penn State’s University-wide commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy on Monday, Jan. 18.

This year, 204 students at University Park volunteered for a total of 816 hours in the community. The service was one of the many campus activities that took place as part of the Unviersity’s 31st Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration.
