Join Dr. Tristan Brown of the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry for a presentation entitled "An Interdisciplinary Approach To Analyzing International Energy Development Feasibility Under Uncertainty."

Abstract:

"Investment in clean energy capacity is falling well short of the amount needed to achieve the Paris Climate Agreement's 2 °C target. At the same time many of the world's primary fossil fuel producers are facing prices that are too low to permit balanced budgets in the future. This new dynamic has created the need for analytical tools capable of quantifying both the feasibility of clean energy investments and their efficiency at the global level in terms of minimizing negative externalities and maximizing positive externalities. This presentation examines the integrated use of an engineering methodology, techno-economic analysis, and an economics methodology, price uncertainty analysis, to provide policymakers and researchers with an analytical tool for quantifying the carbon abatement efficiency of investments in international energy development. The ability of this integrated framework to accurately quantify the trade-off between financial feasibility and environmental impacts via life cycle analysis is also considered."
