Racial Injustice Globally Speaker Series: Dr. Ariane De Lannoy

The SIA Racial Injustice Globally Speaker Series will kick off on Tuesday, September 29 from 12:45 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. via Zoom. The first speaker is Dr. Ariane De Lannoy and she will speak on, "Youth and Inequality in Post-apartheid South Africa."
Ariane is an Associate Professor at the Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit (SALDRU) at the University of Cape Town, with well over 15 years of experience designing, implementing and managing rigorous mixed-method research projects. Her research focus is on youth transitions to adulthood in a context of poverty and inequality. Her emphasis is on multi-disciplinary work and bringing together diverse groups of partners for powerful and large-scale solutions.
Currently, Ariane leads the national, multi-stakeholder coalition responsible for developing a comprehensive approach to support young people who are NEET in South Africa. The work involves robust research work, technological innovation, as well as complex and high-level policy engagements within and beyond South Africa.
Alongside her academic and policy work, Ariane occasionally works in consultancy settings – always with a focus on youth well-being and development - and serves on the board of the Julius Baer Foundation as inequality expert.
Ariane holds Masters Degrees in Languages and International Politics from the Universities of Ghent and Antwerp, and graduated with a PhD in Sociology from the University of Cape Town.
