Join 'Careers in International Organizations' happening April 4 at 1:00 p.m. with Alistair Somerville, Consultant in the Social Sustainability and Inclusion Global Practice of the World Bank, formerly with the United Nations Information Center in Washington. He will discuss multiple entry points to employment with the United Nations and affiliated agencies, as well as give tips on academic preparation and professional (including internship) experiences that will enhance your credentials. Those who participated in the Career Exposure trip to Washington in the Fall will recall that Mr. Somerville hosted our visit to the Wilson Center, and facilitated the panel on careers on climate change.
Alistair Somerville has worked in various capacities in the United Nations system, including for the Department of Global Communications in the UN Secretariat, and on external affairs for the Sustainable Development Practice Group at the World Bank. He was most recently the focal point for the UN Secretariat's think tank, media, and academic engagement in the United States, based in Washington, DC. He covered climate communications, drafted reports to UN headquarters on U.S. politics, and undertook other projects for the director of the UN Information Centre in Washington.
He is also a research fellow at the Center for Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California, where he is working on a project on the UN's public diplomacy among donor populations.
