Kimberly Dozier, CNN and Daily Beast contributor, reporter for the Associated press, and the Gen. Omar N. Bradley Chair in Strategic Leadership at the Penn State School of International Affairs, will present “How to Survive a Car Bomb and Anything Else | aka Turning Healing Anger into Portable Wisdom,” October 6 at 6 p.m.

Her presentation will draw on her experience covering the war in Iraq for CBS News from 2003 until May 29, 2006, when she was critically wounded in a car bombing that killed the U.S. Army officer that her team was filming. For the past four years, Dozier has covered intelligence and special operations for the Associated Press out of Washington.

In her memoir, Breathing the Fire, Dozier recounts the attack in Iraq, her injuries, and the long road to recovery, including dozens of major surgeries, skin grafts, and extensive physical rehabilitation before she was able to resume her career nine months later.

Dozier has received a Peabody award, two Edward R. Murrow Awards, and four American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) Gracie Awards. She is the first woman journalist to receive the National Medal of Honor Society's Tex McCrary Award for her coverage of Iraq.

Dozier is the 2014-2015 Gen. Omar N. Bradley Chair in Strategic Leadership, a faculty appointment shared among Penn State Law, Penn State School of International Affairs, Dickinson College, and the U.S. Army War College, all sponsors of this event. Its objective is to advance the study of strategic leadership and enhance civilian-military dialogue by offering distinguished individuals the opportunity to contribute to the educational and research activities of the partner institutions.

This event will be held in the Apfelbaum Family Courtroom and Auditorium in Lewis Katz Hall, 333 W. South St., Carlisle, Pa., simulcast to the Greg Sutliff Auditorium, Lewis Katz Building in University Park, Pa., and offered via live webcast.
