Army War College Simulation, featuring former U.S. Ambassador Thomas Pickering

Join the Penn State School of International Affairs and the Army War College for a rigorous simulation of international debate and diplomacy, emulating the real-world challenges and issues of international diplomatic negoation.
The simulation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on October 13th and last until the following afternoon and will revolve around the dispute over Nagorno Karabakh. We are honored this year to welcome former U.S. Ambassador Thomas Pickering to lead the simulation and play the role of the U.N. Special Representative in the simulation.
Ambassador Pickering is among the most decorate and respected figures in the world of diplomacy and international affairs, having served for over forty years in the U.S. Foreign Service. His decorated, globe-spanning career included ambassadorships in Russia, India, the United Nations, Israel, El Salvador, Nigeria, and Jordan. Ambassador Pickering also served as Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, and holds the rank of Career Ambassador, the highest in the U.S. Foreign Service. He is also the namesake ofthe prestigious Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program administered by the U.S. Department of State.
In addition to his role in the simulation, Ambassador Pickering will deliver a talk at 3:00 p.m. on October 13th on U.S. policy toward Russia in the age of Putin, which all students are encouraged to attend. The School of International Affairs is honored to welcome Ambassador Pickering and his unparalleled expertise to campus.
