- Full-time enrollment in 3 - 4 courses (15 – 18 U.S. credits equivalent to 70 - 82 HEQF credits at the University of Cape Town; one HEQD credit equals .222 U.S. semester credits so a 12 and 18 HEQF credits equals 2.5 and 4 U.S. credits, respectively)
- At least one course must have specific African context or offer an African perspective
- Elective courses in Afrikaans, African Studies, Economics, Gender Studies, History, Sociology, History, Political Studies, Religious Studies, Social Anthropology, and Sociology
- Students may take all University of Cape Town (UCT) courses or a combination of UCT and the CIEE Study Center courses
