International Career Services Director Returns from the Philippines

Dr. Tineke Cunning, the International Career Services Director for Penn State’s School of International Affairs, recently returned from the Philippines where she led a group of Rotary International delegates as they travelled throughout the country meeting business representatives, public officials, educators, community organizers, and heads of nongovernmental organizations. The Pennsylvania-based delegation traveled with a Korean delegation for part the month-long visit.

The goal of Rotary International is “to provide service to others, to promote high ethical standards and to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.” (See http://www.rotary.org for more information.) Last fall, Dr. Cunning served as one of Pennsylvania’s hosts when the Philippine delegation visited the State College area.

Past Events

The Office of International Career Services recently sponsored a program entitled, "Don't Tattoo Yourself . . . Managing the Brand Called YOU," presented by Professor Andrew Bergstein, Associate Director, Center for Sports Business & Research, Smeal College of Business.

Prof. Bergstein has extensive experience in marketing strategies and technology usage as well as the various social networking forms used by students. His presentation focused on the new media and how often one creates a personal brand without being aware of it. Like tattoos, brands cannot be changed or removed very easily. In fact, the long term implications of public (and even private) brands are often greater and far reaching than one would expect. Prof. Bergstein's presentation was insightful in helping to successfully evaluate your current brand and to enhance it into a more secure, effective and professional brand.
